Our Mission
The Art of Living provides a variety of resources to enrich the lives of youth experiencing homelessness while helping them to imagine a brighter future.
The Art of Living Story
The Art of Living was founded by Bryan and Shawna Walsh in 2019 as a 501(c)(3) organization. Since its creation, their goal has been to establish a safe place for the children living within the Presbyterian Night Shelter by providing a safe and fun learning environment where they can come to learn new skills and be surrounded by consistent positive role models. The Art of Living is embarking on a unique journey to education and mentor homeless youth, 7-17 years of age, to become more self-reliant as they face the profound challenges of homelessness. The ramifications of youth homelessness affect their physical and mental health. According to a recent study by the Fort Worth Report (published March 29, 2023, in the annual Point in Time Count), the Tarrant County homeless population is up 22% year-over-year to over 2,700 people. Behind those numbers, the majority of the homeless are African American. Accordingly, 90%of the student served by The Art of Living are of African American descent. We have purpose created multi-faceted programs that are both inclusive and equitable. And since 2019, we have provided programs and services to over 500 children here in Fort Worth.
